FAQ

  • Do you have a sliding scale model?

Yes! I have an income based sliding scale model, and accept donations to the Community Access Fund to help expand access to as many families as possible. Sessions may also be gifted! Please email martha@becausewesaidso.net for more details!

  • Do you serve the LGBTQIA+ population?

I am a strong ally and have worked with queer youth for many years. In some cases, queer youth are more comfortable working with queer practitioners, and I always want to be mindful of that preference. If your teen and you don’t mind that I personally like fellas, please book a session or group!

  • Why are your small groups so small?

My experience has been that keeping groups to 3-5 members increases teens’ comfort with authentic expression. If the groups are larger they can develop unstable dynamics, and participants are less likely to get what they need from the sessions.

  • Where is your office?

Because We Said So is in startup phase! I am working out of the Community Room inside the wonderful Crossroads Church in Waldo, and will be moving to a leased office, also in Waldo, soon.

  • Do you accept insurance?

Unfortunately, since Relational Support is not a mental health treatment, it is unheard of for insurance to cover it.

  • Are you trauma informed?

Yes. I have formal trauma informed care training from San Diego County as a foster parent, and from TraumaSmart as an educator.

  • Why is your practice called Because We Said So?

Teens need to learn to step into their quickly approaching young adult years with confidence in their own voices, and belief in themselves as good-enough decision makers. It’s a scary transition from childhood, where you don’t often practice making the rules. “Because We Said So” is a mantra for teens and their grown ups making decisions as partners!

  • Do you have liability insurance?

    Indeed I do!

  • Are you certified to work with teens?

I am in the process of obtaining a certification in Youth Resilience Coaching from the Youth Coaching Institute.

  • Are you a mandated reporter?

I complete Missouri Child Abuse and Neglect Mandated Reporter Training each October, and follow the Guidelines For Mandated Reporters Of Child Abuse And Neglect set forth by the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division.
